Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Amy SpradlinAmy

Email: Amy Spradlin came from a long line of teachers within her own family and knew at a very young age that educating and inspiring children was where her heart belonged.  After graduating from high school in Colorado Springs, she followed her passion and spent four years at the University of Northern Colorado working on her teaching craft.  She graduated with a BA in Elementary Education.  The first two years of her teaching career were spent in the inner city of Houston, Texas which was where she was able to apply everything she learned and more into the classroom setting.  Because her longing to return to Colorado was strong, Amy accepted a teaching job in Rifle, Colorado.  She spent the next fifteen years as an educator for Garfield RE-2 School District teaching fifth and second grade as well as holding the position of Literacy Coach.  Three years into the fifteen, she decided to pursue a specialized degree in literacy.  She graduated with a MA in Elementary Reading.  Additionally,  Amy spent one year teaching second grade at Glenwood Elementary School.  Amy is looking forward to joining Two Rivers Community School where she aspires to light the spark of literacy in every child that walks through her door.

Marisa MillsMarisa

Email: Marisa Mills is very happy to be joining an amazing staff at Two Rivers Community School. She was born in Bradenton, FL and spent most of her childhood in Dayton, Ohio. Her mother is of German decent while her father was from Oaxaca, Mexico. Since her father was quite close to his family, she and her 2 sisters and brother were awarded the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Mexico. Her family would travel from Dayton to Mexico City every summer. Marisa and her siblings acquired Spanish as young children and visited some of Mexico’s beautiful places. Going to Mexico were some of Marisa’s best childhood memories; she loved the language, rich culture, traditions, food and most of all spending time with family. She decided to stay with her aunt and attend high school junior year in Mexico City. Mexico became an integral part of  her young life as she continued to go every summer thereafter for many years. Eventually she graduated from Ohio State University with a B.S. in elementary education with certification in bilingual education. During college, she spent a quarter doing her practicum for in Puebla which was known as one of the best bilingual schools in Mexico.  After college, Marisa’s first teaching job was in a private school in N. Lauderdale, FL where she taught full day Kindergarten for 2 years. Then in 1990, she and Scott married and the Navy took them to San Diego, CA where she taught in a bilingual school for one year. They had their first son, Gregory, and moved back to Dayton, OH to be closer to Marisa’s family. Two and a half years later they had their second son, Michael. For the next 8 years, Marisa enjoyed precious time with her boys surrounded by family and friends. During her time as stay-at-home mom, she taught Catechism, and in 1998 she was hired as the teacher to start a Kindergarten Spanish Immersion School which continues today. In 1999, the Mills’ family relocated to beautiful Glenwood Springs, CO and they easily embraced this fascinating valley that offers outdoor life like hiking, biking and skiing.  She got on with the Roaring Fork School District and taught ELL, first grade and kindergarten at Sopris Elementary for 15 awesome years and for Garfield Schools for one year. Now she gets the opportunity to teach k/1 Project Based Learning at TRCS and is already feeling the positive energy, enthusiasm and outstanding staff and families alike . Marisa is excited  to dedicate, nurture and instill a love of learning to the younger children about the outdoors through discovery, exploration and experiential opportunities.

Cristina Mancinas

My name is Cristina Mancinas, I was born in a small town in the city of Chihuahua, Mexico. I am a proud mother of two daughters, one son and an adorable grandson. I have worked for the RFSD since 1996 where I gained many years of experience teaching dual-language models. During that time, I taught preschool, kinder, and first grade.  I graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts and Modern Languages. I absolutely love school, and enjoy passing my passion for learning on to my students. When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, shopping, spending time with my family, and admiring the beauty of this valley.
