staff-Lixy-AlcortaLixy Alcorta is excited to be back HOME at Two Rivers Community School!  She completed her student teaching there in 2014, came on staff in the spring, then made the decision to try out Portland, OR for a couple of years.  While in the Pacific Northwest, she taught 3rd grade for 2 years at an Expeditionary Learning school.  However, the Rocky mountains have been begging her to come back!  She has realized how truly special the Roaring Fork Valley is and is delighted to settle back into this magnificent mountain town.  Lixy is supported by her amazing husband (Jerry) and her two beautiful children, Grayson (10 yrs old) and Aubrey (8 yrs old), and her two energetic labradors, Ranger and Castle.  In her free time she enjoys rafting, paddleboarding, skiing, hiking, and hanging out with her family and friends. Lixy has a passion for teaching and focuses on each individual child in the classroom and their educational needs. She believes that students thrive in an environment that allows them to explore through discovery and inquiry.  One of the most important concepts she hopes to instill is a lifelong love of learning!

Tamarah Howard

IMG_0630Tamarah Howard grew up in Basalt, Colorado and attended University in Boulder where she got her BA degree in Creative Writing. After graduation Tamarah taught abroad for one year in Tanzania Africa before returning to the valley to teach at Two Rivers Community School. Tamarah is one of a long line of teachers in her family, and has always had a passion for working with kids. She also adores almost anything to do with the outdoors, she enjoys skiing, climbing, hiking, camping, and some not so outdoorsy things like salsa dancing. One of the most important things Tamarah has learned during her travels is how to be confident in herself, how to be creative, and handle challenging situations. She’s excited to bring some of those concepts into her classroom for her second year at TRCS! Tamarah likes to incorporate a blend of learning tools in her classroom. Students will often be immersed in real life scenarios, working with their hands to bring a lesson to life. They will use online programs such as Engage NY and Khan Academy, or textbooks like Saxon Math. She’s excited to bring some of those concepts into her classroom for her second year at TRCS!
